Lost Universe's
"I Always Thought I'd See You Again"

This page was created to distribute my AMV of the anime Lost Universe among viewers.  I also wanted to raise awareness of this anime series and this song due to the fact that neither has been widely viewed or listened to among the general public.  Lost Universe is an anime series created by Hajime Kanzaka and Shouko Yoshinaka, who are most famous for Slayers.

Disclaimer

All the images in this video are owned and copyrighted by ADV Films in the United States, the above creators, TV Tokyo, and probably several other people and companies. The song, I Always Thought I'd See You Again, is performed by the singer Tiffany, and the only place I've heard it has been in Jetsons: the Movie

This music video was created solely for providing entertainment, and is NOT to be redistributed for profit of any kind. This includes downloading it and putting it on pages with banner ads, renting, or selling it to other people. I am not liable if you use this video for any reasons other than personal entertainment. To download the compressed avi file, which is approximately 67.3 MB large, click here

For people with less hard drive space to spare, I've created one that is only 20.9 MB large here. The quality is much worse in comparison, but won't take as long to download. Please feel free to read my FAQ and other sections below if there are problems. If you have any questions or comments you would like to add, you can send them to Lisa Carter at FFDream@ura.dnsalias.org.

PLAYBACK

This is a standard avi file and as such should be able to operate under all operating systems provided you have the correct software. Both Windows Media Player and Real Player work with this if you have Windows. I recommend Windows Media Player since I have fewer problems with it. If you run Linux I have known both mplayer and Pythontheater to run the video with NO problems on my system. If you're a MacOS X user, I recommend this version of mplayer because it performs well on your system. The quality is much better on that player than Quicktime. For optimum performance you should have at least a 300 MHz processor.

FAQ

Why is the quality so poor?
The original video footage was ripped from a VHS tape which is why there are discolored lines around the edges of the images and why they aren't all crystal clear. However, this footage is much better than what I was originally able to provide if I had not gotten help from someone.

Why Won't It Display?
I tried to use a rather popular codec when I compressed this file, but if you can't see it, then chances are you don't have the proper codec. The one I used is XviD-04102002-1.exe and here is its source code

Why Doesn't My Audio Start In The Beginning?
I designed this video so that the music doesn't begin until the Opening credits disappear. Don't expect to hear any music before that point.

BACKGROUND INFO & CREDITS

The idea came to me to make a music video of this after I saw the entire anime series. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to do more with it, especially since I knew that not too many people had seen it. I finally settled on two different songs that I thought would be good for this type of anime, and this is the first (and probably harder to design) of the two. As always when planning an AMV, I listened to the lyrics and wrote an outline of possible scenes that I thought would be a good match. I then took the episodes and edited them so they would fit the song.

Since the song seems to revolve around relationships that end unexpectedly, I chose to illuminate the various ways in which this happened in Lost Universe. I decided to concentrate on the relationships between Millie and Kane, Canal's relationship with him (and to a lesser extent Millie), and Canal or Kane and his grandmother.

The programs I used include SoundForge, Adobe Premiere, and VirtualDub. VirtualDub can be downloaded here for free. VirtualDub is very user-friendly, but also limited in some ways. All special effects and final video splicing had to be done under Adobe Premiere. However, due to bugs in Premiere, the final audio compression had to be done via VirtualDub. SoundForge was used to time musical sequences so that I could accurately time the video to the music.

I give due credit to Hairness, whom I have lost contact with, but was once a member of Dalnet. He provided me with all the video footage for this AMV in high quality. Without his help, this video would have looked terrible.

Jarrod Johnson supplied me with information on how to perform the digital effects in the video and is the systems administrator for the domain that hosts my webpages. Although the work of the video's production was done by myself, he also was the one originally supplied me with the necessary tools to produce AMVs.

I also want to thank JC Amberlyn, since she was the one who provided me with the last image in my video (near the bottom of this page) and Dave from Dragid.com for the animated gif of Canal.

This became my pet project in early to mid-2002. My job(s), college classes, and extracurricular activities forced me to put it on hiatus for the better part of a year when I was only 50% finished. I finally completed this project on October 2, 2003.

All the screenshots on this page for Lost Universe came from individual scenes in the videos I used and are included here because they are images I have in my video. The one exception to this is this last image of Lost Universe (below), which is the uncropped version of the last image in my video. This picture was provided by JC Amberlyn (which I found via Google) at her webpage. I originally wanted a picture of all three of them looking happy (like a photo) for the last scene, but I had trouble finding an appropriate picture. Furthermore, this image fits better because it's obviously drawn to be at the end of the series. Millie's dress in this picture is only worn by her at the end of the series.
